       Deepak Kumar

  ( Born - 1974 )

Since the age of 14 he painted miniatures for 10 years to make a living , born and brought up in Jaipur which is a city   ruled by miniature art.

Over the years as he absorbed the creative work done by Contemporary Artists , his paintings took a twist incorporating some style . His works became simpler, gone were the intricate details with heavy borders , his figures became bigger escaping the miniature format , He did a series on just couples, young damsels with a deep emphasis on their Expressions & body forms well tuned in monochrome wash tones.

Earlier he had executed a series of miniatures on Akbar and his life with multiple figures & the entire mughal paraphernalia , proving his skill as a master craftsman inMiniature Art.

After 2001 he started experimentation with stylized figures on canvass using the same element that he was doing on miniatures like horses, Camels, Peacocks  & the hint of gardens kept surfacing in his canvasses as he went on essaying the relation of humans surrounded with animals on nature’s bed. We see a lot of folk symbols & motifs in his works , as he constantly draws inspiration from Indian Folk Art. Similarly strongly believing in ‘ Karma ’ he often throws on the karmic wheel of life in his frames which he says steers & rolls us on the tidings of life.

There is amazing transformation in his work during a span of last 15 years . Though he couldn’t go to any Art College for formal education , Deepak has worked under keen guidance of Sangeeta Juneja .Realizing that drawing is the essence if all compositions , he sketches vigorously to create variety , fearing stagnation like all other artists.

Born 1974 , he has though exhibited group shows at Chandigarh , Jaipur & Delhi , but his talent was appreciated more in the shows done in the Australian & British Embassy in New Delhi in 2004. The Turning point in his life he says was when Juneja Art Gallery auctioned one of his large canvass for Rs. One lakh…..though more turning points are in store as he is ready to take off with his solo shows soon.
