About My Work

To be an artist is an intensely personal business. His art is a silent interaction between the artist and his milieu – his society, his world and the atmosphere he grew up in, that nurtures the unfold creativity in him. It is this interaction that gives the artist his idiom, the language of colour.

Fascinated with a deep-rooted interest of being an artist, Deepak Khandelwal started his career as an active painter in the year 1992. He is a Graduate (B.F.A.) in Fine Arts with specialization in Painting from Rajasthan School of Art, Jaipur and a Post Graduate (M.F.A.) from the renowned Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University, Baroda (Gujarat).

The artist has to his credit an 18 years inexorable journey of fostering contemporary art, showcasing his work in India and overseas.

For him, painting is a creative medium and a sensitive discipline which needs a combination of both subject and its creative aspects. He finds the entire process of transformation of visual experience into a visible medium quite fascinating as well as challenging.

In his show under review, Deepak’s work reflects his influence from the ultra modern society. His keen and pedantic observation in pomp and privileged urban class society, its life style is the core theme of his work. The artist says that his interaction with people in varied social gatherings have always left an indelible impression on him. At times these individuals get stuck in his mind and their expressions and gestures propel him towards capturing moods of urban life style.

His recent works exhibited in this show is also motivated by the process and benefits of meditation. When people meditate, they find themselves in a completely new world which is beyond all tensions and worries of mundane life. Post meditation, they feel relaxed and energized to take up new challenges of life.

The artist further adds that he cherishes happiness and simplicity which is depicted in his art work, through varied colours and forms of “Apples”. Though the artist has used various motifs like – flowers, fishes, plants, leaves etc. in his paintings but a distinctive feature is the depiction of ‘apples’ in almost all of his paintings. He is highly influenced by this beautiful and nourishing fruit gifted by nature. He feels that apples are refreshing and very energetic and hence it helps in producing a kind of freshness in his paintings. Apples portray a trade mark for his semi-figurative paintings. It seems that the artist is in love with the silhouette of apples that symbolizes deep love, thebeauty of nature and an amazing freshness of life. One can see numerous apples in his entire series of large 3 (6X5 Feet), 6 (5ft x 5ft) and small 12 (1ftX1ft) paintings totaling in all 21 paintings.
