 Yashwant Shriwadkar

Painter Yashwant Shirwadkar was born in Rajpur, a small town in little green Konkan.

He now has his studio in Mumbai. He is well-known for his evocative impressionistic landscapes.

Scenes of Benaras, the ghats of the river Ganga, the circular umbrellas shading the priests…

His paintings honestly capture the divinity, the colour and the spell of Benaras.

He achieves his inimitable style by working with a palette knife. With the years his palette has become naturally persuasive.

Bright colours, reds, greens, yellow ochre, sky-blue and white, colours inspired by stain glass paintings.

The vibrant colours, and beautiful costumes of Rajasthan similarly fascinate him and then become his subjects.

A shimmering light in his painting, falls on the water of the lakes, and it shines like jewels.

In a contemporary environment when landscapes are getting rare, Yashwant Shirwadkar is a proud upholder of the art and tradition of the art.

This prolific artist has held a number of very successful shows; not just in India, but around the world. Some of the notable galleries in Europe and USA.

He says of himself, “I always try to reach for the sky, both literally and metaphorically. My views are realistic but my inner promptings are mystic.”
